Physics engine misses collisions

The Blender physics engine intermittently fails on a simple multipoint collision.

Download the Blender test scene.

To reproduce the problem, load the scene into Blender 2.34. Press P to start the simulation. The cube should fall into the "bucket", not through it. Usually it will. But sometimes it will slide through the right side face of the "bucket". If it stops properly, press ESC, then P, to start over. Repeat until it fails.

For us, it fails about one time in five. So try at least 50 times before claiming it "works".

The first test system was an AMD x86 system running Windows 2000 with an NVidia GEforce 3 card. We've also seen this problem on a completely different Windows XP system. We will test on a Linux platform and report back.
